Back when I was far more serious about photography, I had a chance to go up to Alaska to experience the beautiful landscape and some pretty special opportunities to go shoot some of the wildlife.  I traveled from through Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Kenai Fjord and some places in between.  Humpback whales, seals, bald eagles, sea lions, grizzly and black bears, moose, elk, and more– Alaska has a lot to offer for a wildlife photographer. Some days I just lucked into wildlife sightings (a lost bear cub at one of the glacier parks and some big horned sheep on the hillsides of one of the bays we went out on for whale watching) and some days I specifically booked some guided wildlife tours.  I saw my first, and so far only, full breach of a humpback  whale, something I am told is unusual in Alaska.  One of the best days, was a flight into the wilderness to a photo screen off of a mountain river where we could watch bears come to fish for spawning salmon.

Here are just a few of my favorite animal photos from that trip to Alaska.
